M-UP at IGNITE 2018: Migrant Entrepreneurship Matters

November 28, 2018 @ 8:30 am - 6:00 pm

IGNITE is an annual conference organised by SPARK and is the only event worldwide that brings together refugees, entrepreneurs, education experts, private sector, governments, academia and NGOs to improve higher education, promote sustainable economic empowerment and strengthen leadership amongst young people in fragile states.

This year, expect keynote speeches from thought-leaders and experts, such as Minister Sigrid Kaag, Dutch Minister of Foreign Trade and Development Corporation, Professor Alexander Betts, Refugee Studies Centre at Oxford University, Dr. Mansur Muhtar, Vice President (Country Program Complex) of the Islamic Development Bank. For full details check:

“How can migrant business-owners in Europe access equal opportunities to scale up their companies, employ more people and turn more profit?”

M-UP will take part in the IGNITE Conference with a workshop where post start-up support will be debated and the current opportunity that migrant entrepreneurs have in Europe explored. Then, suggestions on how to build the bridge between the opportunities offered by the public and private sector and the migrant entrepreneurs needs will be given.

Key questions that the workshop will cover:

  1. Do migrant entrepreneurs have enough access to opportunities to open and sustain their business?
  2. How can we improve the schemes/laws to ensure migrants entrepreneurs role in society, economic growth, and job creation?
  3. How our support can help the migrants to sustain and grow their business?
  4. Do we need to offer different support to women entrepreneurs?
